We were called
to a Road Traffic Accident one Saturday night. A lady had witnessed
a goat being run over, the driver slowed down afterwards and then sped
off! The goat was dazed in the middle of the road so the lady moved
it to the side and called the RSPCA. By 8:30pm the RSPCA Officers
hadn't arrived, so the lady left the goat with a number of very kind and
caring people. I was contacted and we arrived there within 30
minutes. The Vet met us back at base. Unfortunately this
little girl's back was completely broken and we had to put her to sleep
immediately. Had it not been for the kindness of those passing she
would have died a very slow and painful death. Our work is not only
to care for the animals at the sanctuary, but to deal with call-outs like
this one.

We had a call from a very kind man who saw a
goat tethered up at the side of the motorway as he was driving
today. He has bundled it into the back of his car and on
investigation it seems that some local drug users had it in their back
garden but decided it was too much hassle. The goat is an Old
English billy. the kind man who found it is going to keep it, and
will ring us for advice as and when he needs it. Perhaps when
settled a companion will be requested!

| Oscar Dude,
who we had the pleasure of caring for since May 2000 passed away
peacefully in his sleep on 20th April 2006. He was one of the most
intelligent goats we have ever had. He lived with two lads, Rodger
and James, and they knew who was boss! When he first arrived, his
long mohair coat was trailing behind him on the floor (we have pictures of
this but unfortunately can't transfer them to the computer). He was
probably the largest angora ever born, standing 37" to the
shoulder. These pictures were taken two days before he died. I
had been saying that one of our most popular goats hadn't made it to the
website pages, so I took over 20 pictures of him that day and now
unfortunately that's all we have of him. |
