We have a specially constructed hospital facility to care for the poorly goats. The goats are cared for throughout the night as the hospital is incorporated into our house so we can keep popping into them. Sometimes when they are ill they are unable to stand for days/weeks and we have to keep them mobile and flexible to avoid bed sores. Another problem is that they can develop 'bloat' which is basically when the gas in there stomachs is unable to be released their stomach balloons up and this is incredibly painful. For this reason they need to be continually propped up and moved around.Sometimes encouraging them to eat is a major problem. We have a mixture (like Complan for humans) that we give to the goats if they have no appetite and also try to encourage them to eat with treats like digestive biscuits, bread, cake etc.
