Bell Tintwhistle
|
Pertula Tintwhistle |
| Bell's Mother Pertula
was at the local Farmers' market, for sale, for slaughter! We
bought her and as she was so nervous when we arrived home we didn't make
too much fuss of her, but just put her in a stable to relax. Less
than 24 hours later this small, round soft ball of fluff arrived - Bell.
They are Angora Goats, of which we have
seven. They produce a fine, soft coat called Mohair which is
commercially shorn twice a year. We let our goats' coat come off
naturally and just do a bit of "trimming" at the end.
The older Angoras (like Pertula and Silk)
tend to retain their coat longer and in fact do not lose it all through
the summer months. This is because in the wild the older goats
need to keep warm, and also a new coat requires a lot of energy to
produce; energy is something our "old treasures" keep for
emergencies.

Holly

|
Holly had a fantastic
home, loving parents and a view from high up on a hill overlooking
Cheshire and Derbyshire. But she repeatedly bullied the other much
older goat. Her parents had her horns removed, in the hope that
this would help, but unfortunately it didn't so she came to live
with us and her parents took another rescued goat. Everybody is
happy now. Holly is a bit nervous of the other goats but she is
able to jump high and is regularly seen in the pea straw store. She is a
very envied goat.
